Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will formally submit its roadmap for the 13th national parliamentary election to the interim government on Monday (10 February).

The party will also articulate its stance on the prevailing unrest and recent incidents of vandalism, including those near Dhanmondi 32.

A BNP delegation, led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is scheduled to meet with the Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at 6pm.

Prior to this meeting, the delegation held discussions with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission office on Sunday (9 February).

Following the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan stated, "Setting the election date is the government's prerogative, while the schedule will be announced by the Election Commission. We will discuss this matter further with the Chief Adviser tomorrow, where BNP will present its roadmap for the national elections."

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has indicated that elections could be held towards the end of this year.

Emphasising the indispensability of elections for a nation's democratic evolution, he remarked, "Even under the most expedited timeline, elections could only be organised by the end of this year."

He made these remarks during an interview with Japan's public broadcaster NHK World on 5 February.

Contrastingly, the BNP has been vocal in its demand for elections by July or August.

At a recent press conference, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir asserted, "There is no alternative to an elected government. This is paramount for democracy. We believe elections are feasible by mid-year, around July-August. Therefore, we urge the government, the Election Commission, and all political parties to ensure that elections are held within this timeframe in the greater interest of the nation."
