Babul Kazi, grandson of Bangladesh's National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, passed away on Sunday (19 January) while undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. He was 59 years old.
Babul succumbed to his injuries around 5:30 pm, following a tragic gas lighter explosion that occurred in the washroom of his home in Banani early Saturday morning. Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, stated that 74 percent of his body was burned in the incident.
He was admitted to the ICU in critical condition, and a 16-member medical board was formed to oversee his treatment.
Despite being placed on life support, his condition deteriorated, leading to his death.
Babul Kazi was the youngest of three children born to renowned reciter Kazi Sabyasachi, the third son of Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Uma Kazi. His elder sisters, Khilkhil Kazi and Mishti Kazi, are also citizens of Bangladesh.
Kazi Nazrul Islam, born in 1899 in Churulia village, West Bengal, married Pramila Devi in Kolkata at the age of 25. The couple had four sons, but their family faced tragic losses, with two sons, Krishna Mohammad and Arindam Khaled Bulbul, passing away at a young age. The other two, Kazi Sabyasachi and Kazi Aniruddha, also had short lifespans.
