Central and different front leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) today paid rich tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttom, at his mausoleum in Sher-e Bangla Nagar here to mark his 89th birth anniversary.
To mark the day, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with other party activists and leaders paid homage by placing floral wreaths at the mausoleum of Shahid President Ziaur Rahman, a Sector Commander of War of Liberation at 11.30 am.
Later, they offered fateha and munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of former President Zia also who proclaimed our Independence.
Besides, they also offered doa seeking recovery of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia now undergoing treatment in the United Kingdom(UK).
A huge number of BNP front leaders, activists, supporters, and standing committee members including Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, BNP Vice President Advocate Azam Khan, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Jainul Abedin Faruque, Aman Ullah Aman, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, BNP leader Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Aminul Huq, SM Jahangir, Saiful Alam Nirob and Sultan Salauddin Tuku also attended the programme.
Later, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also talked with the media at the Mausoleum premises.
Ziaur Rahman was born on 19 January 1936, at Gabtoli in Bogura. His nickname was Kamal.
He declared independence from Kalurghat Beter Kendra (radio station) in Chattogram in 1971. Ziaur Rahman again came to the frontline through the Sipoy-Janata Biplob (soldiers and people's revolution) on 7 November 1975.
Zia became a statesman after a lot of political changes. He established the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP on 1 September 1978.
The party has taken a daylong programme to mark the birth anniversary of the former president.
