BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has emphasized the importance of maintaining national unity against fascism, particularly concerning the declaration of the July mass uprising.

Speaking after an all-party meeting convened by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the foreign service academy on Thursday, 16 January, Ahmed stressed the need to prevent any divisions that could undermine this unity.

He stated, "The most important thing for us is to maintain the national unity against fascism. The national unity against fascism that was created through the July-August uprising was transformed into mass unity, and we can practice it culturally, bring it into political culture, and take the nation forward by maintaining that unity."

Ahmed also added "Because of our efforts, we want to give an inclusive political statement with all the political parties that were involved in the anti-fascist movement. Now, we have to keep an eye on that so that no fascist force and fascist allies can sow any kind of seeds of disunity within us."

"We were invited by the Chief Advisor, we came, we spoke, we gave our advice as needed for state governance and on various issues."

When asked if there was any advice on the declaration, he said, "There was some discussion on the declaration related to the July Uprising, leaders of all political parties gave their various advisory statements. We asked whether there was any need for the declaration of the July Uprising after 5 and a half months? If there was, what is its political importance, historical importance and legal importance? That needs to be determined."

When asked what BNP's position was on the declaration, Salahuddin Ahmed said, "We have given our advice on the preparation of various political documents, etc. We have talked about it." When asked if there were any objections to the draft, this member of the BNP standing committee left without making any statement.
