Adviser Mahfuz Alam has announced that the government will hold a meeting with all political parties to discuss the Declaration of the July Uprising on Thursday (16 January). The announcement was made during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday.
Mahfuz said, “The venue for the meeting is yet to be finalised. Informal discussions have already been held with political parties, including the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Gonotontra Moncho, regarding the draft of the July Declaration.”
On 10 January, at a separate press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, Adviser Mahfuz Alam stated that the government would not unilaterally declare the July Declaration. "The government is facilitating the process, but the declaration will be finalised with consensus from all political parties," he said.
The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens' Committee had initially planned to unveil the July uprising declaration on 31 December at Central Shaheed Minar. The announcement generated significant discussion in the country's political landscape, with questions arising about the sudden emergence of the declaration and its potential implications.
At the time, the Interim Government's Press Wing clarified that the government was not directly involved in the initiative. However, on 30 December, during an emergency press briefing, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam announced that the interim government had initiated efforts to draft a declaration for the July uprising based on national consensus.
