A cold wave is expected to affect parts of the northern and western regions of Bangladesh from Thursday (9 January), leading to a drop in both day and night temperatures across most areas.
Weather experts have indicated that dense fog will intensify the winter chill even during daylight hours.
Previously, on 3 January, a mild cold wave had swept over 13 districts of the country.
"A mild cold wave may begin in some parts of the country on Thursday," the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said.
The cold spell could persist until the upcoming Monday.
The temperature gap between day and night is expected to narrow on Thursday in most parts of the country, with dense fog likely to limit sunlight and contribute to a cloudy atmosphere, thereby increasing the daytime cold intensity.
Dense fog could temporarily disrupt air travel, inland river transport, and road communication.
A slight decrease in night temperatures is expected nationwide, while daytime temperatures may remain almost unchanged.
The persistent dense fog is likely to maintain the sensation of intense cold in some parts of the country.
