Former Awami League lawmaker and business leader Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin was arrested on Wednesday evening from his residence in Uttara, Dhaka.

A team from Uttara West Police Station conducted a raid at his Sector-4 house around 6:00pm and took him into custody, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman.

According to police sources, Mohiuddin is a suspect in a case filed in connection with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The specifics of the allegations have not yet been disclosed.

Mohiuddin, a prominent figure in Bangladesh's business and political landscape, was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Dhaka-10 constituency in a 2020 by-election. He previously served as the president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Authorities have yet to provide further details on the charges or upcoming legal proceedings.
