Postgraduate private trainee doctors staged a protest at the Shahbagh intersection this afternoon, demanding that their monthly stipends be increased from Tk25,000 to Tk50,000.

The demonstration caused a complete halt to traffic movement in the area, resulting in immense suffering for commuters.

The protesters, who assembled at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) around 10am, later marched to the busy Shahbagh intersection to press their demand.

One of the demonstrators, said they have been advocating for an increase in their stipends for a long time but their appeals have gone unaddressed by the authorities.

"We will continue our protest here until our demand is met," he said.

The protesting doctors stated that their current stipend of Tk25,000 is insufficient to cover their expenses amid rising prices of essential goods.
