Several hundred outsourcing workers from government institutions blocked the Shahbagh intersection this morning (19 October), demanding the nationalisation of their jobs.

The workers gathered at the busy intersection around 10 am, staging a demonstration that continued until the filing of this report.

The protest has caused severe traffic congestion in Shahbagh and surrounding areas, leading to significant disruption and hardship for commuters.

The protesters stated that their sole demand is the nationalisation of their jobs and they vowed to continue their protest until this demand is met.

They also alleged that many lose their jobs due to tender-related complications and at the end of the fiscal year in June, a large amount of bribe is demanded in the name of job renewal. If the bribe is not paid, they lose their jobs. Additionally, the protesters complained about not receiving monthly salaries, with delays sometimes extending from five to six months, or even up to one to two years.
