Protesters have withdrawn from the tracks following assurances that salaries for temporary gatekeepers and trackmen will be paid by 19 December.
However, the workers have issued a warning that they will resume their agitation on Sunday (22 October), should the payments fail to materialise within the promised timeframe.
On Tuesday (17 December), at approximately 12:45 pm the protesters began vacating the railway tracks.
This development brought an end to a disruption that had halted rail communication with the capital for three hours, allowing services to resume to normalcy.
The workers, protesting unpaid wages, began their demonstration early in the morning, chanting slogans and halting rail traffic.
Protesting workers claim they have reportedly not been paid for the last five months, and their action has led to the suspension of all train services across the country.
According to Mohammad Anwar Hossain, the station master at Dhaka Railway Station, train operations were disrupted from nearly 10:45 am due to obstacles placed on the tracks by the protesters.
As a result of the blockade, rail communication has been severed nationwide, causing significant disruptions to daily travel and logistics.
