India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has expressed his country’s desire to build a positive and mutually beneficial relationship with Bangladesh, emphasising mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity to each other's concerns and interests.

During his official visit to Dhaka, FS Misri held discussions with Chief Adviser of the Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain, and Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin.

In his meetings, Misri underscored India’s commitment to a democratic, stable, peaceful, and inclusive Bangladesh. “People are the main stakeholders in India-Bangladesh relations,” he remarked, highlighting India’s development cooperation and multifaceted engagements in areas such as connectivity, trade, energy, and capacity building, all aimed at benefiting the people of Bangladesh.

“We look forward to moving the relationship forward in a positive, forward-looking and constructive relation,” he said. 

Misri stated, “Delhi wants to work closely with the interim government of Bangladesh for the welfare of the people of both countries. Our discussions were frank and constructive, reaffirming India’s desire to maintain a cooperative and positive relationship with Bangladesh, centered on people’s welfare.”

Misri raised India’s concerns regarding the safety and welfare of minorities in Bangladesh and discussed recent incidents involving attacks on cultural, religious, and diplomatic properties. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding these elements as part of fostering mutual goodwill.

The Foreign Secretary also reaffirmed India’s support for regional integration and development through frameworks like BIMSTEC.

During the Foreign Office Consultations, the two sides discussed a wide range of topics, including political and security matters, border management, trade, water resource sharing, and cultural exchanges. Both nations agreed to enhance cooperation to advance mutual interests and strengthen ties further.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated that FS Misri’s visit aims to sustain bilateral engagement, address pressing concerns, and advance substantive issues in the India-Bangladesh relationship.
