Bangladesh has expressed dismay over a statement issued by India's Ministry of External Affairs regarding the arrest of Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das, emphasising that the matter concerns Bangladesh's internal affairs.
In an official release issued on Tuesday, the Bangladeshi Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested on specific charges and dismissed claims made by "certain quarters" as baseless and misleading. The statement underscored that such remarks misrepresent facts and undermine the spirit of friendship and mutual understanding between the two neighboring nations.
The ministry reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to protecting the rights of all citizens, regardless of religious identity, and highlighted its ongoing efforts to ensure communal harmony. "The Government of Bangladesh is determined to end impunity for gross human rights violations and treats all communities equally," the statement read, citing the peaceful observance of Durga Puja across the country last month as evidence of these efforts.
The ministry also emphasised the independence of its judiciary, assuring that the case involving Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das is being handled by the court without government interference.
Separately, the government expressed deep concern over the killing of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram earlier in the day. Authorities have increased security in the port city to prevent further unrest and maintain communal harmony.
The government reiterated its resolve to uphold peace and ensure the safety of all citizens, pledging that religious harmony in the country will be preserved at any cost.
