A court has issued a travel ban on former Member of Parliament for Cumilla-6, AKM Bahauddin Bahar, his wife Meherunnesa, daughter and former mayor of Cumilla City Corporation, Tahsin Bahar, and son Ayman Bahar.
The order was passed on Monday (11 November) by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zakir Hossain following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ACC's Deputy Director Rezaul Karim had filed the petition seeking a travel ban on the family. The application stated that the former MP, his daughter Tahsin Bahar Suchana, and others are under investigation for abuse of power, illegal appointment dealings, tender manipulation, and embezzlement of government funds through various irregularities and corruption tied to development projects. The proceeds from these alleged corrupt practices have reportedly led to the acquisition of assets beyond their known sources of income.
According to confidential and reliable sources, the ACC discovered that Bahauddin and his family own multiple properties in the country, including flats in Uttara, Dhaka, and several plots and markets within Cumilla's housing estate. Investigations revealed their attempts to leave the country and transfer their movable and immovable assets abroad, necessitating the court's travel restriction to prevent disruption of ongoing inquiries.
