Tarique Rahman, the acting chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), asserted that BNP was the first to advocate for reform, noting that although reform discussions are now widespread, BNP initially led the call.
He highlighted BNP’s firm commitment to implementing its declared 31-point reform framework.
Tarique Rahman made these statements at a memorial event on Tuesday (5 November), commemorating the sixth death anniversary of senior BNP leader Tariqul Islam.
Reflecting on the true meaning of reform, he stated, “Reform will not be realised merely by altering a few lines in books. True reform means an improvement in the fortunes of the people.”
In a pointed remark on the state of national politics, Tarique Rahman observed, “Even if the autocrats have fled, their apparitions remain, leading the country through a political crisis.”
Honouring Tariqul Islam’s contributions, Tarique Rahman remarked, “Losing a man of his calibre has deprived us of valuable guidance. His contributions to the country and politics are indisputable.”
