Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is scheduled to begin on 30 December, following a three-day delay, marking the first major sporting event since the recent political shift in the country.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is leaving no stone unturned in making this year's tournament a vibrant spectacle. The seven-team tournament is set to conclude on 7 February 2025.
This year's BPL will benefit from the direct involvement of Nobel laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, who has joined as the tournament’s chief adviser, a role designed to bring fresh insights and strategic oversight to the event's planning and design.
In anticipation of the tournament that spans over a month, the BCB has crafted an extensive plan, aiming to infuse a new dimension into franchise cricket. BCB director Nazmul Abedin Fahim confirmed Prof. Yunus's involvement in the event’s overall execution, describing it as a significant boost for the league.
Fahim, in a video posted on the BCB’s social media page, commented, "Our goal is to elevate this year's BPL to a new level. Having Prof. Yunus as our chief adviser is indeed excellent news. He will work closely with our sports advisory team to shape this year’s tournament."
Highlighting the event's significance, Fahim stated, "BPL possesses a unique appeal—such occasions that bring the entire nation together are rare here. BPL is one such occasion."
The BCB aims to extend the festivities of BPL across the country.
According to Fahim, “We aspire to make BPL a nationwide celebration. Beyond the matches, it can play an impactful role in various spheres. Each district and sub-district will host activities linked to the BPL, from sports events and fairs to cultural activities.
Throughout the tournament, the BPL will engage the general public through a series of initiatives. Efforts will also be made to brand the tournament globally, showcasing the emergence of a new Bangladesh."
As part of the promotional efforts, the BCB has also announced concerts and various programmes to accompany the BPL events, ensuring that the celebration transcends the boundaries of cricket.
