Dr Shahadat Hossain has taken the oath as Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).

The oath-taking ceremony took place on Sunday (3 November), in the conference hall of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives at the Secretariat.

AF Hasan Ariff, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Land, administered the oath.

Following the ceremony, Dr Hossain pledged to address the persistent waterlogging issue in Chattogram.

He stated, “Waterlogging has been a longstanding problem in Chattogram. This crisis will be resolved, and Chattogram will be developed into a planned city.”

Additionally, the former BNP leader outlined plans to enhance the city's tourism sector through infrastructure improvements.

Dr Shahadat arrived in Dhaka with a large entourage to participate in the oath-taking.

According to Maruful Haque Chowdhury, Dr Hossain's private secretary, a total of 27 guests, including top party leaders and family members of the new mayor, attended the event.

Following the oath, Dr Shahadat is scheduled to pay respects at the mausoleum of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman, accompanied by Chattogram-based leaders and activists.

He will assume his mayoral duties on 5 November after his return to Chattogram.
