In a significant move to reform the Election Commission, a presidential directive has formalised the appointment of a six-member search committee

A gazette notification has been issued announcing the formation of a six-member search committee tasked with the reconstitution of the Election Commission (EC).

The order, sanctioned by the president, was issued on Thursday (31 October) under the signature of Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid.

Earlier, on Tuesday (29 October), Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed, appointed Senior Appellate Division Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury as the head of the committee.

The committee includes several distinguished members, with Senior Justice AKM Asaduzzaman joining as a committee member.

The other members are Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh Md Nurul Islam, Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) Chairman Mobasher Monem, former Professor of International Relations at Dhaka University Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, and former BPSC Chairman Professor Dr Jinnatun Nesa Tahmida Begum.
