Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has announced a nationwide campaign from 1 November to enforce a ban on polythene shopping bags, mandating jute packaging and strict market monitoring to promote health and environmental safety

The interim government will launch a campaign against polythene shopping bags beginning on 1 November, as announced by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

On Sunday (27 October), during a briefing focused on banning polythene and mandating jute packaging, Rizwana Hasan detailed the upcoming measures. 

The environment adviser stated that the government has undertaken this initiative with public health in mind. 

"The use of polythene bags will be strictly prohibited in supermarkets. Starting from 1 November, stringent monitoring will be conducted in all markets to prevent the usage of polythene bags," she added.

Additionally, strict actions will be enforced to halt polyethene production, the adviser further said.
