Three advisers from the interim government will investigate allegations against Public Administration Ministry Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman regarding bribe-taking in the appointment of District Commissioners (DCs).

Adviser to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs, Sharmin S Murshid, announced the formation of the committee to journalists on Thursday.

The probe committee includes Information and Communication Technology Adviser Nahid Islam, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul and Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

During the press conference, reporters questioned who would investigate the secretary himself, given that the Public Administration Secretary typically oversees corruption investigations against other officials. In response, Sharmin S Murshid said, "We will certainly investigate the allegations, but we also need to determine if the incident is real or if it could be a deepfake."

The government, according to Murshid, is deeply disappointed by the allegations.

Mokhlesur Rahman has denied any involvement in financial misconduct related to DC appointments. "There is no truth to the claims of bribery. This is entirely fake news, and we are taking legal action against the newspaper that published this false information. These baseless accusations will not be considered," he said in response to a query from journalists at the secretariat on Thursday (3 October).
