NASA Astronaut Joseph M. Acaba, who has spent over 306 days in space and participated in multiple missions aboard the International Space Station (ISS), is visiting Dhaka this week to engage with students, academics, and the media.

Acaba’s visit aims to inspire Bangladeshi youth to pursue careers in space science, robotics, and STEM education. According to a press release, he will lead discussions on how space exploration can drive technological advancements and address global challenges such as climate change.

During his visit, Acaba is scheduled to participate in interactive sessions with students, encouraging interest in space exploration and innovation. He will also appear in a televised interview to share insights into NASA’s global contributions and discuss how Bangladesh could collaborate with the organization through initiatives like the Artemis Accords.

The Artemis Accords outline principles for peaceful and sustainable exploration of outer space, fostering international collaboration. Acaba’s visit highlights the potential for partnerships between NASA and Bangladesh’s growing space and technology sectors.

Joseph M. Acaba, a hydrogeologist, educator, and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, made history in 2004 as the first person of Puerto Rican ancestry to be named a NASA astronaut candidate. In 2023, he was appointed Chief of NASA’s Astronaut Office. Throughout his career, Acaba has conducted spacewalks and groundbreaking research during his three missions aboard the ISS.
