The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has partnered with the South Asia Center for Media in Development (SACMID) on a digital safety project aimed at empowering women and other marginalised groups across Bangladesh.

The initiative seeks to combat online harassment and misinformation affecting vulnerable communities and was officially launched at a signing ceremony held at the Dutch Embassy in Dhaka, read a press release.

Head of Mission Andre Carstens, Senior Policy Advisor Namia Akhtar, and other senior representatives from the Embassy and SACMID were present at the event.

Targeting communities in Cumilla, Sirajganj, and Khulna, this project builds on SACMID’s recent initiatives in Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Brahmanbaria, which addressed the challenges posed by digital misinformation and promoted digital literacy.

By extending these efforts, the programme aims to enhance digital safety and support the creation of secure, inclusive online spaces for women, girls, media professionals, and other marginalized populations.

Head of Mission Andre Carstens highlighted the Netherlands’ dedication to advancing gender equality and ensuring freedom of expression for all in Bangladesh. "This collaboration reflects our commitment to creating safe digital spaces and promoting digital literacy for communities that are often vulnerable to online risks," said Carstens.
