A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and 16 others in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) concerning irregularities in plot allocations by the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK).
Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib accepted the charges brought forward by the ACC and issued the warrants as the accused failed to appear before the court on Thursday (10 April).
The prosecution was represented by ACC Assistant Director (Prosecution Division) Aminul Islam, who confirmed the court’s decision.
The case stems from allegations of abuse of power and procedural violations in the allocation of RAJUK plots during Hasina’s previous tenure as prime minister. The accused are alleged to have colluded to grant undue favours in the allotment process, thereby causing substantial loss to the state exchequer.
Further proceedings in the case are expected in the coming weeks.
