Eid holidays end, routine returns on Sunday

Following a nine-day holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, all public and private institutions across Bangladesh, including schools and offices, reopened from Sunday

After a prolonged nine-day holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, government, semi-government and autonomous offices, banks, insurance firms, and educational institutions across the country reopened from Sunday (6 April).

These establishments resumed operations from 9am, following their regular schedules, although schools and colleges may operate according to their own academic calendars.

As the festive recess draws to a close, a steady stream of people began returning to their workplaces on Saturday.

Major entry points into Dhaka saw a noticeable increase in vehicular traffic, though the extended break helped ease the usual travel chaos.

The capital is expected to regain its familiar, bustling character from Sunday (6 April).

By Saturday morning, bus terminals in Gabtoli, Mohakhali and Sayedabad reported a surge in arrivals, which intensified as the day progressed.

By late afternoon, roads in areas such as Shanir Akhra and Rayerbagh experienced moderate congestion, though the traffic remained manageable.

Train services at Kamalapur Railway Station operated on schedule, with passengers expressing relief at the comparatively smooth journey this year.

Conversations with returnees revealed a general sense of satisfaction, as travel across all routes was reported to be significantly less stressful than in previous years.
