Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep respect for Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and commended his contributions during their bilateral meeting in Bangkok on Friday.

According to Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged India’s continued admiration for Prof Yunus, despite past political tensions. Alam shared these remarks in a post on his verified Facebook account.

During the meeting, Prof Yunus raised the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s extradition. Alam stated that the response from Modi was not negative, expressing confidence that Hasina would one day be extradited to Dhaka. He described the potential event as "the trial of the century."

Alam further noted that India appears to be steering its relationship with Bangladesh in a new direction.

He quoted Prime Minister Modi as emphasizing that India's ties are with the people of Bangladesh rather than any single party or individual.

Prof Yunus has repeatedly stressed the importance of strong bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India, advocating for a partnership built on fairness, equity, and mutual respect.
