Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has intensified security measures across the capital for Eid-ul-Fitr, deploying 667 patrol teams in two shifts daily across 50 police station areas, said Additional Police Commissioner (Detective Branch) Rezwan Karim Mallik on Saturday.

Speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre, he announced that 71 police checkpoints have been set up at key locations to strengthen security. Intelligence surveillance has been heightened at financial institutions, shopping malls, railway stations, bus terminals, and launch terminals to prevent any potential sabotage attempts.

To combat misinformation and propaganda ahead of Eid, the DB’s cyber team has also increased its monitoring efforts using advanced information technology.

As part of efforts to ensure the safety of city residents traveling home after Eid celebrations, DB will launch a "special operation" targeting criminals, including muggers, thieves, and extortionists. Specialised teams from DB’s eight divisions will conduct operations at strategic points across Dhaka.

Authorities are also cracking down on counterfeit currency circulation. Several members of fake currency gangs have already been arrested, and significant amounts of counterfeit banknotes and materials used to produce them have been seized in recent raids.

The DB official urged residents to report any suspicious activity or security concerns to the nearest police station, DB office, or police outpost. Additionally, he encouraged the public to reach out to DMP’s control room or the national emergency helpline 999 for assistance.
