A young man allegedly attacked three police officers, including the officer-in-charge (OC) of Pallabi Police Station, early Tuesday over a minor issue.
The incident occurred on the police station premises, leading to the arrest of the attacker, Abdur Razzaq Fahim, along with three others. The injured officers were identified as OC Nazrul Islam, Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam, and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Nasir.
According to Maksudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Mirpur Zone) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the attack took place around 12:30 am Fahim had arrived at the station, claiming that a murder had taken place in the area.
OC Nazrul explained that no murder had occurred, but a young man had been stabbed and was receiving treatment, while the suspect was already in custody.
Fahim, appearing agitated, accused the police of hiding the truth and insisted that the duty officer was aware of a murder. When asked to provide his identity, he hesitated. As OC Nazrul attempted to escort him to his office, Fahim suddenly attacked, punching and kicking the officers.
During the scuffle, ASI Nasir sustained a broken finger while trying to intervene, and SI Shariful was punched in the forehead.
Fahim was eventually restrained and taken into custody.
Following his arrest, Fahim disclosed that he had traveled to Pallabi from Gazipur with three others in a car bearing a news channel sticker. The police detained all four individuals and later placed them under arrest.
A case has been filed against the suspects, and the injured officers were taken to Kurmitola Hospital for treatment, said DC Maksudur.
