The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) hosted an Iftar party on Thursday at a hotel in the capital, honoring foreign diplomats stationed in Bangladesh.

Ambassadors, high commissioners, mission chiefs, chargé d'affaires, and representatives from various international organizations attended the event.

Prior to Iftar, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir exchanged pleasantries with the guests and delivered a brief speech, emphasizing the party’s commitment to democracy, accountability, the rule of law, good governance, and justice.

"The political future of Bangladesh must be determined solely by its people," Fakhrul asserted, expressing hope that the country’s global partners would respect international norms of non-interference, sovereignty, and peaceful resolution of disputes.

He also emphasized BNP’s vision of fostering democratic progress, liberal trade partnerships, and stronger people-to-people connections for regional development.

"The people of Bangladesh deserve a future free from fear, oppression, and political uncertainty. The path ahead is clear for a swift return to democracy through a free and fair election," he added.

Among the diplomats Fakhrul joined for Iftar were British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke, retired US diplomat Jon Danilowicz, Pakistan High Commissioner Syed Ahmed Maroof, and Turkish Ambassador Ramis Sen.

Foreign representatives from the US, UK, Germany, China, India, the EU, Russia, Japan, Canada, the UAE, Norway, Sweden, Spain, France, Italy, South Korea, and Nepal, as well as officials from UN agencies and other global organizations, attended the gathering.

Senior BNP leaders, civil society members, journalists, and educationists also participated in the event.

Before Iftar, a munajat was offered, seeking divine blessings for peace, progress, and the welfare of Bangladesh.
