Foreign Affairs Advisor Md Touhid Hossain stated that Bangladesh is not responsible for the ongoing visa complications, emphasizing that the final decision rests with India.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (4 March), he clarifies, "For whatever reason, India has decided to suspend visa issuance. Granting visas is their sovereign right. If a country chooses not to issue visas to certain individuals or groups, it is their prerogative, and we cannot question it. We hope India will communicate their decision to us in due time."
Responding to a question from BBC Bangla regarding Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus's remarks on India, Touhid Hossain reiterated that Bangladesh’s stance aligns with the Chief Advisor’s statement, stressing, "We seek a working relationship with India."
Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on 5 August, India suspended visa application services indefinitely, citing instability in Bangladesh.
After a prolonged suspension, limited visa processing resumed. However, India has restricted visa issuance, only allowing medical and emergency visas, while other categories remain on hold.
