The date of the upcoming elections will hinge on the outcomes of the July Charter, said Press Secretary to the interim government Shafiqul Alam.

He made the remarks during a press briefing on Saturday afternoon while speaking to journalists at the Foreign Service Academy before the commencement of the National Consensus Commission's dialogue with political parties.

Shafiqul Alam also said, "You have seen that the Chief Adviser has mentioned that the most likely time for the election is by December. In that case, we may be able to implement some recommendations, while the rest will be carried out by the political party that comes to power afterward."

He added, “Following these discussions, a decision will be made based on the consensus of all political parties, and they will sign the agreement. This signed document will be the July Charter."

Alam noted that the six reform commissions’ reports would be thoroughly reviewed with the political parties during the dialogue. He also pointed out that many recommendations could be implemented without further discussion, although areas requiring broad agreement would be addressed collaboratively.

“This marks the beginning of a political dialogue for the reconstruction of Bangladesh following the July uprising, and for defining the path of our democratic transition,” Alam stated, referring to the efforts to build a political solution for the country.

Several political party leaders have already arrived at the Foreign Service Academy to participate in the meeting. In attendance are prominent figures including BNP Standing Committee Member Major General Hafiz Uddin, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Liberation Democratic Party Chairman Colonel General Oli Ahmed, and leaders from other parties such as Nagorik Oikya, Jatiya Party, BJP, and Bangladesh Labor Party.

The meeting will be addressed by the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government and President of the National Consensus Commission Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, as the dialogue aims to lay the groundwork for a unified political vision moving forward.
