The government will construct 214 new model mosques at the upazila level, Religious Affairs Adviser A F M Khalid Hossain announced on Monday.
The adviser made the statement to reporters on Tuesday (18 February) after the 11th session of the final day of the Deputy Commissioners' (DC) conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital. The session was held with the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Khalid Hossain said, "We will construct 214 new model mosques in each upazila. In selecting the sites, the district commissioners will serve as the chairmen of the site selection committees. We have instructed them to monitor and ensure proper site selection and high-quality construction materials."
The adviser added, "I emphasized the importance of maintaining communal harmony, and district commissioners must be vigilant. We have urged them to ensure no miscreants can desecrate temples, shrines, mosques, pagodas, or churches."
He stated, "If criminals are caught, we have directed that they be immediately brought under the law and face trial. We have also encouraged DCs to take initiatives to increase the number of Hajj pilgrims under government management."
