The ongoing tensions between students of Dhaka University and those of the affiliated 7 colleges should be resolved through discussion, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

Speaking to journalists on Monday (27 January) following a meeting of the Core Committee on National Law and Order at the secretariat, the adviser remarked that the situation had escalated over minor issues and called for a measured response.

"This situation must be handled with patience. I believe the matter can be resolved through dialogue. If we lose patience, nothing will be settled. Everyone must act with restraint," he stated.

Addressing concerns over the role of law enforcement, he maintained that the police had responded with patience, as per their instructions, though he acknowledged that in certain instances, maintaining such restraint can be challenging.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury further noted that while students may have legitimate demands, the appropriate way forward is to address them through discussion.
