Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) authorities have confirmed that no bomb or explosive-like device was found on the Bangladesh Biman flight arriving from Rome.
"Thorough inspections of the aircraft and passengers' baggage revealed no explosives," said HSIA Executive Director Group Captain Kamrul Islam on Wednesday (22 January) afternoon.
The bomb scare prompted heightened security measures after a call to ASP Abdul Hannan Roni’s phone via WhatsApp from a Pakistani number claimed that 34 kilogrammes of explosives were on board the BG-356 flight.
The plane landed safely at 9:35am, and subsequent searches confirmed the threat to be a false alarm.
Earlier, the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, en route from Rome to Dhaka, was compelled to make an emergency landing at HSIA after receiving a bomb threat.
The threat was communicated via a phone call from an unidentified number to the airport's control room, said HSIA Executive Director Group Captain Kamrul Islam.
He stated that flight BG-356, carrying 250 passengers and 13 crew members, was threatened while approaching Dhaka.
The aircraft landed safely at 9:20am.
Passengers and crew were swiftly evacuated to the terminal.
A bomb disposal unit, alongside a joint security task force, was dispatched to the aircraft to ascertain the presence of any explosive device.
Security personnel cordoned off the plane as a precautionary measure.
The flight had departed from Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome at 8am local time on Tuesday (21 January).
