Gas pressure will be low across the country for the next 3 days, said Petrobangla.

"From 12pm 10 January to 12pm 13 January, certain areas in the country will experience reduced gas pressure due to maintenance and repair work. The Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) operated by Excelerate Energy at Maheshkhali will suspend the supply of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) for a total of 72 hours," Petrobangla said in a statement.

"During this period, the second FSRU will continue to supply approximately 550 to 560 million cubic feet of gas per day," it added.

Authorities have expressed sincere regret for the temporary inconvenience this may cause to the public.

The depleting reserves in domestic gas fields have been leading to a continual decline in production.

Previously, daily gas output from domestic fields reached 2,800 million cubic feet, which has now decreased to 1,932 million cubic feet.

To augment the supply, LNG is being imported via two FSRUs.

Petrobangla has further stated that the approved load across eight consumer categories in the country totals 5,356 million cubic feet per day, whereas the demand ranges between 3,800 and 4,000 million cubic feet.

Presently, a daily supply of 2,800 million cubic feet is being provided, leaving a deficit of approximately 1,200 million cubic feet.

The average supply in the fiscal year 2023-24 stands at 2,493 million cubic feet per day.
