Building no 7 of the secretariat, which was severely affected by a fire on 25 December, has officially reopened after 11 days of restoration.

The fire, which broke out shortly before 2am on Christmas night, has now seen the building return to partial functionality.

On Sunday (5 January), government officers and staff were seen entering the building.

The 9-storey building had its top four floors completely gutted by the blaze, but the remaining five floors are operational, with staff resuming their work.

However, access to the upper floors is still restricted, with only officials from the Public Works Department allowed to enter beyond the fifth floor.

Although the building has been reopened, remnants of the fire are still visible, with blackened scorch marks staining the floors.

Restoration work is ongoing, with cleaning efforts being carried out to return the building to its pre-fire condition. However, water and electricity supplies remain inconsistent.

It is worth noting that the fire was brought under control by the Fire Service after a six-hour effort, at around 8am on 26 December.

The fire was completely extinguished after almost 10 hours of firefighting.

A preliminary report from the investigation committee, formed under the leadership of the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical "loose connection".
