The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Advocate Mohammad Tazul Islam, has described 2025 as the year when former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League leaders will face trials for alleged crimes against humanity.

Speaking on Wednesday (1 January), during a New Year greeting exchange, Tazul Islam outlined the tribunal’s objectives for the upcoming year.

He stated, “In the new year, the judicial process for addressing the crimes of the past 16 years will progress. Following the Chief Justice's approval, proceedings will commence at the main building, which has undergone renovations. The tribunal is advancing all processes related to crimes committed during the previous Awami League government.”

Tazul Islam further remarked that investigations into crimes against humanity perpetrated in July and August are underway. He added, “The decision to repatriate former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is a matter of state policy. However, the tribunal will proceed independently with the trial.”

Prosecutors BM Sultan Mahmud and Abdullah Al Noman, among others, were present at the event.
