The interim government has issued a stern warning to civil servants against breaching the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1979, with violators facing strict disciplinary measures.
In a notification released on Tuesday (31 December), the Ministry of Public Administration highlighted its firm stance against indiscipline within the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) cadres.
The move follows growing unrest among government officials after the Public Administration Reform Commission's recommendations were discussed on 17 December.
BCS cadre officials have since engaged in protests, rallies, human chains, and work abstentions, pressing for their demands. Meanwhile, social media platforms have seen a surge in debates and discussions among officers from various cadres, with some openly criticizing government decisions and reform initiatives.
The notification underscored the critical role of civil servants in ensuring efficient public service delivery and maintaining the smooth operation of the state’s administrative machinery.
“Comments and statements made by government employees on social media against government decisions, orders, or reforms, even before their implementation, constitute a clear breach of conduct rules,” the notification stated.
It warned that any such actions would be treated as misconduct under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, and that offenders would face disciplinary action.
The government’s firm stance aims to reinforce discipline within its civil service ranks amid increasing unrest and dissent.
