Renowned architect Marina Tabassum, named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2024, has been appointed as the chairperson of the Bangladesh National Museum governing body.
Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki confirmed the news through a post on his verified Facebook account on Thursday.
He wrote, "We have been looking forward to someone who can lead the governing body of our national museum. Someone who is aware of what’s happening with museums in the rest of the world, who has an unbiased understanding of our history and heritage, who has a keen interest in the arts, who is aware of our present, and can offer a vision to modernize museums. We are glad that Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2024, Marina Tabassum, has agreed to be the chairperson of the Bangladesh National Museum governing body."
Marina Tabassum is a celebrated figure in architecture and design, having earned numerous accolades, including the prestigious Soane Medal from the United Kingdom, the Gold Medal of the French Academy of Architecture, and the Arnold Brunner Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and has been honored as a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the Government of France.
