Students of Government Titumir College once again blocked the Mohakhali-Gulshan link road in front of their college, demanding that the government upgrade the institution to university status.

The renewed protest began around 6:30 pm. Earlier in the day, a group of students had blocked the Mohakhali intersection at around 11 am, causing a complete shutdown of both rail and road traffic in the area.

The blockade was temporarily lifted around 4:00 pm after a 12-member delegation of students went to the Secretariat for discussions.

However, following the discussions, the delegation announced plans to go on a hunger strike in front of the Secretariat. Upon hearing this, other students resumed the road blockade at 6:30 p.m. in Mohakhali.

The earlier unrest lead to an attack on a Noakhali-bound Upokul Express train.

The attack resulted in the breaking of several train windows and injuries to a number of passengers, including a child.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that more than a hundred students gathered on the railway tracks beneath the Mohakhali overbridge, effectively halting vehicular movement on the adjacent roads.

During the demonstration, the students chanted various slogans in support of their demand to elevate Titumir College to university status.

The blockade extended beyond the railway line, disrupting connectivity from Banani to Farmgate through Jahangir Gate. This caused a significant build-up of traffic on both sides of the road.

This protest follows a similar incident on 24 October earlier this year, when Titumir College students staged a road blockade to push for the same demand.

On that day, students assembled at the college campus from the morning before marching to Amtoli in Mohakhali, where they staged a sit-in protest.

The demonstration led to severe traffic congestion across Mohakhali, Banani, and Gulshan areas.
