Major (Retd) Shahjahan Omar, a former Member of Parliament from the Awami League and ex-leader of the BNP, has reported an attack on his vehicle.

Following the incident, he sought refuge in his Rajapur residence, where the local police subsequently took him into custody for his protection.

The attack occurred on Thursday morning (21 November), while Major Omar was travelling from Barisal to Rajapur. His vehicle came under assault at the Pingri area, where it sustained significant damage.

Jhalokati Superintendent of Police, Ujjal Kumar Roy said, "Former MP Shahjahan Omar has been taken into police custody. Further details will be provided in due course."

The incident followed another act of vandalism the previous evening, on 20 November.

Unidentified individuals targeted Major Omar's residence in the Godownghat area, pelting it with bricks and stones.

The assault resulted in the shattering of three glass panels on the outer facade of his home.

The escalating violence has raised concerns about political tensions in the region, as authorities continue their investigations.
