Tnsions have once again escalated between the two factions of the Tabligh Jamaat – the followers of Maulana Saad and the Zubair faction – with both sides vying for control of the Kakrail Markaz Mosque.

In light of the situation, security measures were significantly heightened in the Kakrail area from the early hours of Friday (15 November) morning.

Saad supporters took up position outside the Kakrail Markaz Mosque.

After 8am, they entered the mosque, drawing a gathering of several lakh people during this period.

The presence of Saad followers extended from the front of Kakrail Mosque to areas including the residence of the judge, the Public Health Engineering Directorate, and VIP roads in the vicinity, where they sat in protest.

Reportedly, the dispute between the two factions first came to light in November 2017, when a clash broke out between groups of followers in Kakrail.

Due to the heightened tensions, for the past seven years, administrative directives have dictated a rotational arrangement: Zubair followers occupy one part of the Kakrail Mosque for four weeks, while Saad followers conduct their activities there for two weeks.

However, the Zubair faction has maintained control over the remaining part of the mosque throughout the year.

Saad followers have expressed discontent, claiming that during the Awami League's tenure, the Zubair faction, with support from Hefazat, has enjoyed preferential treatment.

The rift has also intensified over the Tongi Bishwa Ijtema grounds, with both factions vying for dominance over this religious congregation site.
