A collision between a passenger bus and a private car on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway has resulted in the deaths of three individuals in Kaliakoir, Gazipur, with another sustaining critical injuries.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:30am on Sunday (10 November) in the Sutrapur area near the Shilabrishti CNG Pump along the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Kaliakoir Upazila, said Kaliakoir Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Riad Mahmud.
"Bodies have been recovered and legal proceedings regarding the matter are underway," he added.
According to local sources and police reports, the victims have been identified as Md Nasir Uddin, 23, son of Md Sabur Mia of Andi village in Sakhipur Thana, Tangail; Jewel, 32, son of Syed Ali of the same area; and Muslem Uddin, 30, son of Md Syed Ali of Chakanda Birer Bari village in Madhupur Thana, Tangail.
Witnesses reported that a speeding passenger bus travelling in the same direction collided with the private car from behind in the Sutrapur Shilabrishthi CNG Pump area of the highway.
The impact caused the car to crumple and veer off the road.
Locals promptly alerted the police and fire service. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and discovered one deceased victim, while three others were found critically injured.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where two more succumbed to their injuries. Subsequently, highway police recovered the bodies from the site.
