The Hindu community is set to receive an additional day of holiday for Durga Puja, as confirmed by Mahfuj Alam, special assistant to the chief adviser of the interim government.
The announcement came during his visit to the Dhakeshwari Temple on Tuesday (8 October).
He stated, "For quite some time, Hindu devotees have been requesting an extension of the Durga Puja holiday. They celebrate from Shashthi to Dashami, and this year, with Friday and Saturday falling just before Dashami, we have decided to grant an additional day of leave to allow them ample time for festivities."
He further added that a gazette notification might be issued by the end of the day, officially declaring Thursday as a public holiday.
