Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Moinul Islam has assured that there is no risk of militant attacks during the Durga Puja festivities, stating that there is no opportunity for such activities. However, he warned that any attempts to create disruptions will be dealt with immediately.

The IGP made these remarks on Monday (7 October) during his visit to inspect the security arrangements for the Sharadiya Durga Puja at Dhakeshwari Temple in the Azimpur area of the capital.

In response to a question regarding potential threats during the festival, Md Moinul Islam confirmed that there is no scope for disorder or militant activity surrounding the Puja celebrations.

He further mentioned that cyber monitoring has been intensified. The authorities have implemented cyber patrolling to ensure that no one can spread false information, rumours, or exaggerations through electronic media or social platforms.

Addressing concerns regarding the release of militant members on bail, the IGP stated that these individuals were granted bail during the previous government’s tenure.

He explained that, for various reasons, they either could not or did not, leave prison at the time.

However, those who have been released are under strict surveillance, and should any of them engage in terrorist or militant activities again, they will not be allowed to remain free.

This year, security for Durga Puja has been bolstered compared to previous years. The IGP emphasised that all Puja venues have been instructed to install CCTV cameras, and Ansar-VDP personnel will be deployed.

In addition to the armed forces, specialised police units will be on duty, and volunteers will maintain a 24-hour presence at the Puja venues.
