Eight dengue patients have died and 1,221 more were admitted to hospitals across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, according to a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday (29 September).
Of the total deaths, five deaths were reported from Dhaka South City Corporation, one from Dhaka North City Corporation and one each from Barishal and Khulna divisions.
This year’s death toll from dengue has now reached 158, the statement added.
In Dhaka, 206 patients were admitted to hospitals under the Dhaka North City Corporation, while 228 were hospitalised in Dhaka South City Corporation.
So far in 2024, 29,786 dengue cases have been reported. In comparison, the country recorded 321,179 dengue cases and 1,705 deaths in 2023.
