Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has declared assets worth over $400 million, including a collection of more than 200 designer handbags valued at over $2 million and at least 75 luxury watches worth almost $5 million, according to a report by AFP.
Paetongtarn, the youngest daughter of billionaire and former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, assumed office in September, becoming the fourth member of her family to lead Thailand in the past two decades. As required by Thai law, she disclosed her assets and liabilities to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC).
The asset declaration revealed her total wealth at 13.8 billion baht (approximately $400 million). This includes investments worth 11 billion baht, deposits and cash totaling 1 billion baht, and other holdings such as luxury items and property in London and Japan.
Her luxury collection comprises 75 high-end watches valued at 162 million baht, an additional 39 timepieces, and 217 handbags worth 76 million baht. The NACC document, shared by local media, also reported liabilities of nearly 5 billion baht, leaving her with a net worth of 8.9 billion baht ($258 million). A representative of the Pheu Thai Party confirmed the accuracy of these figures to AFP.
Paetongtarn's father, Thaksin Shinawatra, remains one of Thailand's wealthiest individuals, with a net worth of $2.1 billion, according to Forbes. Thaksin, who once owned Manchester City football club, leveraged his wealth from the Shin Corp telecommunications empire to launch a political career. Despite his exile following a coup, the Shinawatra family continues to wield significant influence in Thai politics.
