Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur has assured that the central bank has not seized the accounts of any institutions and will not do so in the future.
He emphasised that while individual banks might seize accounts of persons or organisations, the central bank has not issued any directives in this regard.
Dr. Mansur made these statements during a meeting with reporters on Sunday.
He highlighted various initiatives aimed at restoring customer trust in the banking sector. As part of these efforts, the deposit insurance limit has been increased from one lakh to two lakh taka, providing security for 95% of consumers' deposits.
The central bank head said, a task force for the banking sector will begin its work within the next 10 days. The task force will receive support from institutions such as the IMF, World Bank, ADB, and other concerned organisations to address and resolve sectoral issues.
