Doctors have postponed their 'complete shutdown' until 8 pm on Monday (2 September), after Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum assured them that those responsible for the recent attacks on doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) would be arrested within 24 hours.

The health adviser made the assurance during a briefing at the administrative building of DMCH on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier, doctors, interns, and medical students had announced an indefinite shutdown in all public and private hospitals across the country, including upazila and district-level hospitals. This decision was taken in protest against the attack on physicians and the vandalism carried out by relatives of a patient in the emergency department of DMCH.

In response to the incident, two separate probe committees have been formed to investigate the attack on the doctors and the vandalism, as well as to look into allegations of negligence in treatment.
