A murder case has been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her family, and 27 others following the death of grocery shopkeeper Mizanur Rahman during an anti-discrimination student protest in Dhaka's Banasree area

A murder case has been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and 27 others in connection with the killing of grocery shopkeeper Mizanur Rahman in Dhaka’s Banasree during an anti-discrimination student protest.

Mizanur's father, Kamal Hossain, lodged the case with the court of Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque on Wednesday (28 August).

Among the other accused are Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Hasanul Haq Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, Amir Hossain Amu, Barrister Sayedul Haque Suman, the director general of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Habibur Rahman, the director general of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Syed Nurul Islam, Harun-ur-Rashid, Biplob Kumar Sarkar, Saddam Hossain, and Barrister Sajjad Hossain.

The incident occurred on 19 July at around 3pm when Mizanur Rahman was shot in the leg in the Banasree area under Khilgaon Police Station during the anti-discrimination student protest.

He was rushed to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Pangu Hospital), but succumbed to excessive blood loss at 5:40pm.
