Two additional lawsuits have been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka, following her resignation amid a fervent mass movement.

The cases were lodged on Thursday (22 August), at Mohammadpur and Adabor police stations.

Sheikh Hasina has been accused of involvement in the murder of truck driver Sujon in the Mohammadpur case, and in the murder of garment worker Rubel in the Adabor case.

The officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station, Mohammad Tofazzal Hossain, and the inspector (investigation) of Adabor police station, Md Nazrul Islam, have confirmed the filing of the respective cases.

In the Mohammadpur case, Rafiqul Islam, the brother of the deceased Sujon, has filed the lawsuit, accusing Sheikh Hasina along with 79 other named individuals and 450-500 unidentified persons.

According to the charge sheet, Sujon was injured during a peaceful procession in Basila on 20 July, which was allegedly disrupted by gunfire under the direct and indirect orders, planning, and participation of the accused. Sujon was later pronounced dead after being taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

The Adabor case accuses Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and 154 others, along with 400-500 unidentified individuals, of the murder of Rubel, a garment worker. Rafiqul Islam, the father of the deceased, filed the case, alleging that Rubel participated in a protest march on Ring Road in Adabor on 5 August, during which gunfire was allegedly instigated by the direct and indirect orders, provocations, and assistance of the accused. Rubel sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen and succumbed to his injuries on 7 August while receiving treatment in hospital.
