Hefazat-e-Islam has expressed solidarity with the "March to Dhaka" programme initiated under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

“Our brave students and the public have issued a one-point ‘March to Dhaka’ programme for Monday. Everyone, regardless of party affiliation, should join this march in solidarity. This is our new fight for freedom," said the party’s leader, Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari, in a statement on Sunday (4 August).

"The time has come to end the fascist regime that has long suppressed our basic rights and curtailed our political and religious freedoms,” said Babunagari.

He added, “We have endured with patience, looking towards Allah’s judgement. Despite enduring countless imprisonments, oppression, conspiracies, and pressures, we have remained steadfast. Now is the time to stand up.”

Initially sparked by demands for quota reforms, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has now evolved into an anti-government protest.

On Sunday, they began a nationwide non-cooperation movement, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The students have called for a "March to Dhaka" on Monday (5 August), urging protesters from across the country to converge on the capital.
